December 17, 2006

Penderyn Walking Bus TrialThe Walking Bus Trial Scheme for Ysgol Penderyn School will not be going ahead due to a lack of interest in the scheme.

Headteacher of Ysgol Penderyn School Mr Williams recently wrote to all parents regarding a Walking Bus trial scheme for the school.

Walking Bus schemes identify walking opportunities and provides trained parents to escort children to and from school.

Walking bus schemes can have many benefits, including promoting healthy exercise through regular walking, improving road safety awareness and developing pedestrian and social skills.

The scheme also helps to reduce traffic congestion, improves air quality - and saves time for parents.

Peter Cobley of Rhondda Cynon Taff Council’s Road Safety Unit confirmed said : “We cannot support the initiative without volunteers and after discussions and approaches to parents, we found there was no interest in this initiative in Penderyn.”
