Make the Best of your Penderyn Countryside
March 5, 2008
A new plan aimed at making the best of Rhondda Cynon Taf’s stunning countryside and open spaces has been launched.
Out and About - The Rights Of Way Improvement Plan for Rhondda Cynon Taf - sets out the Council’s rights of way and countryside access strategy for the next 10 years and includes an action plan to deliver these improvements. It provides an opportunity for the Council and other interested parties to work together to improve countryside recreation opportunities for all user groups.
To celebrate the publication of the document, a whole week of walks, rides and outdoor events has been arranged from Saturday-Sunday, April 5-13, 2008.
Events include:
· A short guided Nordic walk (with poles) on Saturday, April 5, from 2pm starting from Maerdy Library at 2pm. This walk is suitable for all ages and abilities.
· A litter pick in the Ynysboeth area organised by the Bryncynon Litter Picking group on Monday, April 7, starting at the Feel Good Factory, Ynysboeth at 10am.
· A walk in Ynysangharad Park, Pontypridd, on Monday, April 7, to show people how to use the ‘Life Trail’ outdoor gym equipment that has been installed along the river path. Starting at 10.30am, this event will last around one hour.
· A sponsored walk from Glyncoch to Llanwonno on Saturday, April 12, re-enacting Roman travels to Llanwonno. Starts 11.30am from Glyncoch Community Centre.
Details on all 28 events during the week are available in a leaflet which you can pick up at all libraries, or view on the Council website www.rhondda-cynon-taf.gov.uk
Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Cabinet Member for Better Public Services and Transport, said: “We are fortunate in Rhondda Cynon Taf to be surrounded by beautiful countryside, where people can walk, cycle, ride horses or just enjoy being outdoors.
“All local authorities must produce a Rights of Way Improvement Plan. Our document sets out what we are doing to improve and manage public rights of way in future.”
